Christian Garcia combined for 29 second-half points, but Montclair State held off a late rally for a 75-69 win in the New Jersey Athletic Conference opener for each team in The Golden Dome Arena.
Burgos finished with a game-high 26 points, three assists and three steals while Garcia came off the bench for 17 points and three steals, but the Scarlet Raiders (2-3, NJAC 0-1) could not get the go-ahead points against Red Hawks (3-2, NJAC 1-0) in the final minute.

Jeremiah Rivers dropped in a pair of free throws with 20 seconds left to make it 70-69.
MSU went back up by three just two seconds later when junior guard Asad Faison scored on a long inbounds pass and the Raiders would not score again.
August paced the Red Hawks with 18 points, five rebounds and three assists while freshman guard Brian Flores hit five of eight shots from beyond the arc on his way to 17 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Rutgers-Camden in an NJAC doubleheader on Saturday in The Golden Dome. The women tip off at 6 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 8.
