Scarlet Raiders Fall Twice At Bomber Classic

ITHACA, NY- Junior middle hitter Rachel Witt paced Rutgers-Newark with 17 points, but the Scarlet Raiders fell in straight sets to Oneonta State and Baptist Bible in the final day of the Ithaca Bomber Invitational in Ben Light Gym.

Sophomore middle hitter Michelle Jimenez had three kills with one assisted block, while hitting an impressive .429 in the first match as the Scarlet Raiders fell to Oneonta, 25-16, 25-6, 25-16. Sophomore setter Jen Mendoza led the Rutgers offense with 14 assists while senior outside hitter Toni Moppert led her team with seven digs. Witt put down a team-high four kills while adding two aces, two solo blocks and an assisted block.

Moppert pounded down nine kills and Witt collected seven kills and two aces to pace the attack in the 25-23, 25-15, 25-18, loss to Baptist Bible. Sophomore libero Paulina Walega led the defense with 11 digs. Jimenez had five kills while hitting at a .571 clip. Mendoza led the offense with 22 assists and four digs.

The Scarlet Raiders (1-8) will play at Ramapo College on Thursday night at 7 in their New Jersey Athletic Conference season opener.
