MAHWAH, NJ – Rutgers-Newark could not slow down hot-shooting Ramapo College and suffered a 92-76 New Jersey Athletic Conference loss in the Bradley Center.
Senior guard
Pedro Burgos netted 19 points to pace four Scarlet Raiders in double figures, but the Roadrunners (13-4, NJAC 4-2) shot 52.2% (35-67) from the floor and made 16 of 19 free throws to drop Rutgers-Newark (10-6, NJAC 3-3) into a tie with New Jersey City (12-4, NJAC 3-3) for fourth place in the NJAC's rugged North Division.
Freshman swingman
Christian Garcia tallied 14 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals for the Raiders who also got a career-high 15 points from freshman guard
Kevin Philemon. Philemon knocked down four of seven shots from the floor and seven of eight free throws as Rutgers-Newark made 16 of 18 shots from the charity stripe.

Doze Ikwuegbu totaled 10 points while junior center
Hussein Abdelmaksoud came off the bench for a team-high eight rebounds plus six points.
Junior forward Stephon Treadwell hit eight of 13 shots from the floor and made all eight of his free throw attempts for the Roadrunners to finish with 24 points and eight rebounds. Senior forward Demetrius Boards made nine of 16 shots while tallying 18 points and a game-high 13 rebounds as Ramapo controlled the boards, 43-31. Junior guard Jermaine Emanuel went five for nine from the floor while posting 14 points, a game-high 10 assists and six rebounds.
Ramapo's totals of 92 points, 52.2% from the floor and 84.3% from the free throw line were season highs by an opponent against Rutgers-Newark.
Garcia had 14 points and Burgos, 10, in the opening half, but Ramapo bulled its way to a 42-36 lead by controlling the rebounding, 23-14, while shooting 52.8% (19-36). Senior forward Rich Grant had a pair of inside baskets to spark a 9-0 Roadrunner spree which gave the home team a 36-26 lead with 4:43 left in the period.
Burgos nailed a pair of treys following two field goals by Garcia to stake the Raiders to an early 10-2 lead, but Boards contributed a pair of buckets as Ramapo responded with a 12-0 run which put the Roadrunners ahead to stay. Rutgers-Newark cut the deficit to one five times before the half, but the Raiders could never catch the home team.
