Christian Garcia has been selected as the New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.

The 6-foot-2 medical hardship freshman averaged 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds as the Scarlet Raiders (12-8, NJAC 5-4) split a pair of league games. It was the sixth weekly NJAC rookie award for Garcia who received the honor three times in the first four weeks of the 2010-11 before suffering a season-ending foot injury.
On Wednesday, Garcia had a dozen points, six rebounds and a steal as the Raiders stopped New Jersey City, 73-69. In Saturday's 63-56 loss to Richard Stockton, he netted 11 points, grabbed four rebounds, blocked a shot and came up with a steal.
On the year, Garcia is averaging 10.7 points and 5.4 rebounds while totaling 30 assists, 19 steals and eight blocked shots in 16 games.
Rutgers-Newark hosts Steven in a non-conference game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in The Golden Dome Arena.
