MONTCLAIR, NJ – Senior guard
Pedro Burgos poured in a season-high 30 points to spark Rutgers-Newark to a crucial 83-71 New Jersey Athletic Conference win over Montclair State in the Panzer Athletic Center.
Burgos, who connected on five of seven 3-point jumpers and nine of 10 free throws, hit a trey to ignite the Scarlet Raiders' decisive 20-6 run which turned a 3-point deficit into an 11-point lead. Freshman forward
Christian Garcia capped the rally with three unanswered baskets. His conventional 3-point play with 11:01 left made it 51-40, Raiders.
Garcia finished with 19 points, eight rebounds and a game-high two blocked shots while junior point guard
Al'Don Muhammad added 17 points, four rebounds and game-highs of four assists and three steals. Muhammad had a trey and a conventional 3-point play during the key second-half rally.

Jeremiah Rivers chipped in 10 points for Rutgers-Newark (13-9, NJAC 6-4) while junior forward
Mark Moorman tied Garcia with a team-high eight rebounds. Senior guard
Greg Moore added five points and six rebounds for the undermanned Raiders who used just seven players.
Senior forward Andrew August paced the Red Hawks (16-7, NJAC 6-5) with 22 points, six rebounds and a team-high three assists. Sophomore forward Ordel Goldson hauled down a game-high 12 rebounds and netted 16 points for MSU while freshman guard Dwight Bostic came off the bench to nail three of four 3-point jumpers on his way to 13 points.
The victory puts the Raiders back into the mix for one of three NJAC North Division berths in the upcoming conference championship tournament. Entering this afternoon, Rutgers-Newark, Montclair State, Ramapo and New Jersey City all have six league wins behind division-leading William Paterson (8-2).
Rutgers-Newark hosts William Paterson on Wednesday in an NJAC doubleheader in The Golden Dome Arena before celebrating Senior Night in a conference twinbill against Ramapo on Saturday. On each night, the women tip off at 6 with the men to follow at 8.
