NEWARK, NJ – Freshman Austin Gilker battled to a three-set win for Rutgers-Newark's only singles victory in a 7-2 season-opening loss to Hunter College on The Golden Dome Courts.

Gilker rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 12-10 (superset) win on the fifth flight over Hawk junior Binh Luu.

Senior Gafar Ayinde teamed with junior William Cheung for an 8-6 win over sophomores Damen Ellingson and Stanislav Tsoy on the No. 2 doubles court.

Rutgers-Newark takes on Baruch College next Saturday at noon at the U.S. Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens.
