NEWARK, NJ – Rutgers-Newark swept a pair of non-conference games against the College of Saint Elizabeth, 13-5 and 9-1, on Alumni Field to equal their win total of 2011 with a dozen games left in the season.

IN GAME ONE, sophomores
Gabby Spinella and
AJ Affholter each collected three hits to pace a 13-hit Scarlet Raider assault in the 5-inning decision.
Spinella started and finished a 6-run rally in the third inning with a lead-off home run and a 2-out, 2-run double to centerfield. She added an RBI on an infield grounder in the first and scored two runs. Affholter, who went three for three with a walk, had RBI singles in the second and third innings.

Nicole Odell, who went two for three, tripled with one out in the second and scored on an Affholter single.

Liane Drastal (5-10) sent the Eagles (4-22) down in order in the top of the fifth. Drastal gave up eight hits and just three earned runs while yielding no walks and recording no strikeouts.
A 2-run bases-loaded single to right centerfield by junior first baseman
Monica Bagan ended the game on the mercy run in the bottom of the fifth. Bagan also had an RBI single to cap the Raiders' 3-run first inning.
IN GAME TWO, Rutgers-Newark (11-16) took advantage of seven walks, a hit batter and four Eagles' errors to score nine times on just six hits in the 5-inning win.

Tasharla Evans advanced everyone with a fielder's choice grounder to shortstop. Sovak was hit by a pitch to bring in a run before sophomore second baseman
Tiara Santi ended the game with a clean single to right field.
Sophomore
Brianna Alicchio (6-6) scattered five hits while walking one and striking out four to get the win. An outfield throwing error in the first inning gave Saint Elizabeth its only run.
No Raider had more than one hit with a 1-out double to centerfield by Odell standing as the only extra-base hit in the game.
Rutgers-Newark travels to William Paterson at 1 p.m. on Saturday for a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader.
