MAHWAH, NJ – Rutgers-Newark rapped out 11 hits in a 7-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference win over Ramapo in the nightcap of a New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Roadrunners took the opener, 6-1.

IN GAME TWO, freshman shortstop
Victoria Sovak and sophomore
AJ Affholter keyed the Scarlet Raiders to a 5-1 lead in the first two innings. Both went two for four and scored three times in the game.
Junior first baseman
Monica Bagan and junior third baseman
Monica Liotto each went two for three. Bagan drove in two runs while Liotto had an RBI and scored a run. Junior leftfielder
Nicole Odell also notched two hits for the Raiders.
Sophomore lefthander
Brianna Alicchio (8-7) scattered seven hits while walking just one and striking out two in the complete-game win.
Sovak dropped down a lead-off bunt base hit to start a 2-run first inning. Bagan delivered an RBI single to rightfield and sophomore catcher
Gabby Spinella drove in the second run with a ground ball to second base.
Ramapo scored its only run in the bottom of the first before Sovak, Affholter and Liotto strung together doubles in the top of the second to ignite a 3-run spurt which put Rutgers-Newark firmly in control.
The Raiders (13-20, NJAC 2-12) added two runs in the sixth when Sovak dropped down a bunt and reached on an error. Affholter and Bagan followed with RBI singles.
IN THE OPENER, Sovak led off the game with a home run, but Ramapo stormed back for a 6-1 win.
Sovak hammered her fifth home run of the year to rightfield on the third pitch of the game, but the Roadrunners (24-8, NJAC 9-5) answered with five run on four hits in the bottom of the frame to take control. A 3-run home run by catcher Lisa Orlando capped the rally.
Sophomore righthander
Liane Drastal (5-13) took the loss giving up nine hits and three walks while striking out three.
Affholter was the only Raider with two hits in the game.
Rutgers-Newark is at Rutgers-Camden at 3 o'clock on Tuesday for an NJAC doubleheader before hosting Baruch College in a non-conference twinbill on Thursday at 4 p.m.
