Elijah Kim scratched out a 9-7 tie-breaker on the No. 6 singles court to give Rutgers-Newark its only point in an 8-1 loss to the College of Staten Island on The Golden Dome Courts.
After splitting the opening sets against Dolphin sophomore Austin Kapetanakis, 6-3, 2-6, Kim held off the CSI player to finish the 3-hour, 20-minute marathon match. It was the Scarlet Raiders' second straight 8-1 loss to start the season while Staten Island improved to 4-4 with its fourth straight victory.

Raymond Postadan lost a 3-set battle against junior Nicholas Zikos, 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 while freshman
Youssef Rizk fell to Kolachuk Chuenpratum, 6-4, 6-3, in the other best matches of the day.
The Dolphins rolled the three straight wins in doubles to start the match, allowing the Raiders just five total games in the matches.
Rutgers-Newark takes on Hunter College at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
