Box Score GALLOWAY, NJ – Rutgers University-Newark saw its winning streak snapped at four when Richard Stockton scored with just two minutes remaining for a 2-1 New Jersey Athletic Conference win on the RSC Turf Field.
The late goal denied the Scarlet Raiders (9-5-1, NJAC 2-3-0) a chance to extend their winning streak while the Ospreys (8-7-0, NJAC 4-2-0) took their second straight conference decision.
Junior midfielder Chelsea James tapped in a crossing pass from sophomore midfielder Adrianna Boucher for the game-winning goal with 2:01 left on the clock to turn back the determined upset bid by Rutgers-Newark. Despite being out-shot, 13-4, the Raiders carried the contest into the final minutes with sophomore defender
Victoria Benet and midfielder
Cristina Estremera playing key roles.
Estremera tallied the Raiders' goal just 52 seconds after Stockton scored the opener in the first half. Junior midfielder
Sara Corson sent a crossing pass from the right side to the middle of the 6-yard box and into the path of Estremera who was headed toward the right side. Estremera one-timed the shot low into the right side to make it 1-1 with 38:26 gone in the contest.
Stockton freshman forward Mairead McKeary was handed the opening goal when Raider junior goalkeeper
Veronika Tueros lost the grip on a soft, high ball into the middle by senior forward Lexi Stasi. Stasi's lob bounced off Tueros to the feet of McKeary who pushed a soft grounder into the right side of the net.
Tueros posted two saves and freshman defender
Emily Corson helped the Raider cause with a team save in the 26th minute. Stasi sent a shot from 12 yards out on the left side of the goal inside the near post. Corson raced behind a helpless Tueros and kicked what would have been a tally out to the right.
The Raiders put three of their four shots on goal with sophomore forward
Paige Lazar forcing Osprey senior goal keeper Lauren Haynes to make a save in the eighth minute and
Emily Corson putting a free kick on goal with just five seconds left on the clock.
