Paige Lazar netted goals as the Scarlet Raiders (7-4-1, NJAC 2-2-0) racked up their second straight win – both in NJAC play – while the Gothic Knights (3-5-2, NJAC 0-4-0) lost their third consecutive league contest.
Junior goalkeeper
Veronika Tueros (2-4-1) stopped a shot in each half to get her first career shutout while NJCU senior goalkeeper Brittany Hoffman kept things close by making seven of her eight saves in the second period when Rutgers-Newark outshot the visitors, 14-1.

Haley Savva sent a low, driving corner kick from the right side which
Emily Corson, a freshman defender, redirected into the middle of the goal in the 10th minute for what proved to be the game winner.
It was the only marker of the opening half as Rutgers-Newark attempted just six shots with neither team putting together any offensive surges.
In the second half, the deeper Raiders wore down the Gothic Knights, taking four of their five corner kicks. Rutgers-Newark finished with a decisive 20-2 advantage in shots and a 5-0 domination in corner kicks.
Junior midfielder
Sara Corson notched her eighth goal of the season in the 69th minute when she got the rebound of her own charging shot off Hoffman about a dozen yards out and chipped the ball into the open net.
In the 72nd minute, freshman midfielder
Sabrina Solorzano sent an aerial through ball from beyond midfield on the right side between defenders to near the middle of the 18. Sophomore forward
Paige Lazar ran onto the ball, pushing a shot past Hoffman into the right side of the net to end the scoring.
The Raider defense spearheaded by

Julie Dantoni thwarted the Gothic Knight attack and helped the team equal its season-low for shots allowed set in a 5-0 win over Cobleskill on August 30.
Rutgers-Newark plays three matches on the road next week beginning on Monday with a 7 p.m. non-conference tilt at Mount Saint Mary. On Wednesday the Raiders play another out-of-conference match at FDU-Florham at 7 o'clock before going back into NJAC competition on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Richard Stockton.
