Sophomore outside hitter Jack Fredricks (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) had a solid match, collecting 19 kills and a team-high total of 20 points, leading Rutgers-Newark to a 3-1 win over New Jersey Athletic Conference foe Ramapo Thursday night in Mahwah, N.J.

The Scarlet Raiders (14-8) won the first and second sets, winning 25-21 and 27-25 respectively, before the Roadrunners (10-12) captured the third set by a 25-18 margin. The Scarlet Raiders then closed it out with a 25-18 reversal score in the fourth and deciding set.

Besides the efforts of Fredricks, the Scarlet Raiders received solid play from junior setter Kevin McCandless (Leesburg, VA/Heritage), who had 45 assists, freshman opposite hitter Corey Pieper (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller), who had 13 digs, junior middle hitter Cody Chidsey (Bath, PA/Northampton Area), who had 13 kills and 15 total points and senior opposite hitter Alex Barnhard (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge), who had 10 kills, five digs and a total of 10 points.
