Junior setter Kevin McCandless (Leesburg, VA/Heritage) had 31 assists and five digs and sophomore middle hitter Nick Kuti (Macungie, PA/Whitehall) registered nine kills, six blocks and a team-high 12 points, but Rutgers-Newark fell in straight sets to New York University Tuesday night in New York.

The Scarlet Raiders fell 17-25, 22-25, 28-30 to the Violets, who were able to control play from the outset.

Other than McCandless and Kuti, the Scarlet Raiders received solid performances from junior middle hitter Cody Chidsey (Bath, PA/Northampton Area), who had nine kills, junior opposite hitter Travis Mintzer (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus), who collected nine kills and junior libero Quocmy Nguyen (Wescosville, PA/Emmaus), who had 10 digs.
