LANGHORNE, Pa. - Junior middle hitter Cody Chidsey hit .538 and got in on five of Rutgers University-Newark's 10 blocks as the Scarlet Raiders dominated play at the net to sweep past Cairn, 3-0, in a Continental Volleyball Conference match. Game scores were 25-10, 25-17, 25-19 in the Mason Activity Center.

Chidsey posted a match-high 12 points by putting down eight kills with one error on 13 attacks while adding a service ace, a solo block and four blocking assists as the Raiders (12-7, CVC 5-1) forged a 10-1 advantage in blocking over the Highlanders (9-12, CVC 0-7).

Sophomore outside hitter Jose Mendez tallied a match-high 11 kills while junior setter Kevin McCandless had 32 assists as the Raiders hit a solid .325 (36 kills, 11 errors, 77 attacks). McCandless also delivered two of Rutgers-Newark's six aces.

Junior libero Quocmy Nguyen came up with 18 of the Raiders' 33 digs while sophomore outside hitter Jack Fredricks added five kills on just 11 attacks. Fredricks also handled 20 serves without an error and got in on two blocks.

Sophomore middle hitter Nick Kuti totaled 7.5 points with four kills, an ace, a solo block and three blocking assists while junior opposite Travis Mintzer posted four kills and four assisted blocks in just two games. Freshman opposite Corey Pieper hammered down four kills on just five attacks.

Freshman outside hitter Andy Willits paced Cairn with six kills, an ace and a blocking assist, but the Raiders forced the Highlanders to hit a negative .012 (21-22-81) for the contest.

Rutgers-Newark, which maintained sole possession of second place in the CVC, travels to third-place Stevenson (11-8, CVC 4-1) on Friday for a 7 p.m. league match.
