Bloomfield Clips Men’s Tennis in Tight Match

NEWARK, N.J. (April 13, 2015) – The Rutgers-Newark men's tennis team fell in a tight match against Bloomfield College Monday, dropping a 5-4 decision at The Golden Dome Tennis Courts.
 
The Scarlet Raiders, won three singles matches and one in doubles play, but it was not enough as the Bears earned the one-score victory to improve to 3-7 on the season. Rutgers-Newark is now 4-3.
 
R-N picked up No. 2 doubles as senior Derence Tejero and Eison DeGuzman notched a well-earned 8-5 win over Vadim Kustov and Thulani Hove. At first and third, the Bears won handily by margins of 8-1 and 8-0.
 
Bloomfield clinched the match by taking the top three flights in singles play. Tejero made a bid at a comeback at No. 2 but eventually fell 6-1, 6-3, with Nadeem Hilal getting the first Newark victory out of the fourth slot. Hilal won 6-4, 6-2, and DeGuzman picked up a thrilling 6 -4, 7-5 win at No. 5. Closing the match was Ahmed Sanaullah, taking an 8-3 victory at sixth singles for Rutgers.
 
The Scarlet Raiders will look to get back in the win column when they host the City College of New York in Newark on April 16 at 5 p.m. The match was originally slated to be played at CCNY.
