NEWARK, N.J. (April 18, 2015) – The Rutgers-Newark men's tennis team improved to 5-3 on the 2015 season with a 6-3 victory over Pratt Institute on a beautiful Saturday at the The Golden Dome Tennis Courts.
 
Playing singles ahead of doubles, the Scarlet Raiders had their fifth win of the season locked up early. Ahmed Sanaullah was the first to pick up a win, blanking his opponent 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Eison DeGuzman won by the same score at No. 5 to give Rutgers a 2-0 edge.
 
Veteran Derence Tejero pushed the Raider lead to three (3-0) with the team's third shutout (6-0, 6-0), rolling at second singles. Pratt picked up a victory at No. 1 before Nadeem Hilal's win at No. 3 (6-1, 6-4) put the Raiders on the brink.
 
Youssef Rizk won the clincher for the Scarlet Raiders, downing Nick Minichiello 6-0, 6-2 out of the fifth slot and sending R-N to doubles play on top 5-1.
 
The doubles matches were very close as the Scarlet Raiders fell by identical 9-7 finals at first and third. DeGuzman and Sanaullah tallied Rutgers' final marker of the day, winning 8-4 over Joshua Morgan and Fan Mo at second doubles.
 
Pratt dropped to 5-5 in defeat.
 
The Scarlet Raiders will look to make it three wins in a row when they host Rutgers-Camden in a GNAC match Sunday in Newark.
