BLOOMFIELD, N.J. (April 14, 2016) - The Rutgers University-Newark men's tennis team was defeated at NCAA Division II foe Bloomfield College by a score of 8-1 Thursday.
Rutgers-Newark falls to 3-4 on the season, but the Scarlet Raiders have a chance to get back in the win column on Friday when they square off against non-conference rival Mount Saint Mary College in Newark on The Golden Dome Courts.
Bloomfield improves to 1-7 on the season (1-0 against Division III teams).
The Scarlet Raiders' lone point in the match came from
Joe Codomo at No. 4 singles, earnings a 6-3, 6-4 win in his match.
Ray Fan fought hard for the Scarlet Raiders out of the first slot, winning seven games but falling 6-3, 6-4, and veteran Benjamin Liouie won six games at No. 6.
Codomo and
Richard Nguyen led R-N in doubles play, earning three points in an 8-3 loss at No. 2.
"That is a good team we played today, and playing up against teams like that definitely helps us," said Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "We were able to take some games and push ourselves and we hope that translates into positive results the rest of the week."
