NEWARK, N.J. (Aprl 15, 2016) - The Rutgers University-Newark men's tennis team was defeated by a score of 8-1 Friday night on The Golden Dome Courts against Mount Saint Mary College in non-conference action.

Rutgers-Newark drops to 3-5 overall, while the Knights improve to 4-3.

R-N had a short turnaround and will host Ramapo College in the Scarlet Raiders' first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match of the season at 2:30 p.m. in Newark. Rutgers-Newark will be looking for revenge after the Roadrunners ousted the Raiders from the GNAC playoffs a season ago.

Both the Scarlet Raider men and women played MSMC Friday evening, so all matches were played as pro sets.

Rutgers-Newark picked up its point in third doubles, as Raheel Khawaja and Richard Nguyen earned an 8-5 victory after the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles squads suffered 8-3 defeats.

In singles action, No. 1 Ray Fan picked up six games in an 8-6 loss, while Benjamin Liouie and Noman Makhdoom each won five. Benjamin Liouie won four for the Raiders.
