NEWARK, N.J. (April 16, 2016) – Ramapo College bested Rutgers University-Newark in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's tennis match on The Golden Dome Courts Saturday afternoon in Newark. The final score was 9-0.
Rutgers-Newark falls to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while Ramapo improves to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC.
In doubles play, Ramapo swept No. 1, but the Scarlet Raiders battled hard at two and three.
Joe Codomo and
Stan Wu lost at second doubles, 8-5, while Benjamin Liouie and
Richard Nguyen fell 8-6 at three.
No. 6
Raheel Khawaja had the closest match of the day in singles play, just falling short 6-4, 7-5. Wu fell 8-5 at No. 5, while
Nadeem Hilal picked up five games is a 6-2, 6-3 loss at No. 3.
The Scarlet Raiders will hit the practice courts Monday and Tuesday before hosting Lehman College and CCNY on Wednesday and Thursday in non-conference action. The Scarlet Raiders return to GNAC play when they visit Albertus Magnus College on April 23.
Wednesday's match against Lehman is slated for a 4 p.m. opening serve from The Golden Dome Courts.
