While the award was earned for classroom excellence last year, the current group of Scarlet Raiders are off to a strong start on the field, in the classroom and in the community. Rutgers-Newark is currently on pace to receive the Team Academic Award once again, it brings an overall mark of 8-5-0 into Saturday's New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) showdown with Stockton University and R-N has recently taken part in a pair of community initiatives. The Scarlet Raider ladies hosted a drive to help those in Puerto Rico recovering from Hurricane Maria, and they also volunteered at the Integrity House Run in Newark.
