NEWARK, N.J. (April 15, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's tennis team picked up a key Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) win Saturday on The Golden Dome Courts, blanking Albertus Magnus College by a 9-0 final.
Rutgers-Newark is now 1-1 in the GNAC and 7-4 overall, while Albertus drops to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in league play. The triumph for Rutgers-Newark sets up a match against Rutgers University-Camden next Saturday in Newark with the winner earning a berth in the GNAC Tournament.
Coming off a convincing 8-1 road win at Western Connecticut State on Friday afternoon, the Scarlet Raiders made it two in a row with a dominating performance Saturday.
Newark won 24 of the 26 games it played in doubles action, as the pairings of junior
Brandon Davis and junior
Ray Fan and senior
Joe Codomo and junior
Richard Nguyen both won 8-0. At No. 3, junior
Kevin Martin and senior
Stan Wu rolled by an 8-2 final.
In singles action, Rutgers-Newark dominated, dropping just five total games while winning 72. Davis went 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1, Hilal blanked his opponent at No. 2 (6-0, 6-0) and Nguyen won 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3.

Alan Yu pitched shutouts out of the fourth and sixth slots, while senior
Abhinav Dani went 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5.
"We took care of business this weekend, which was great to see," said Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "Now we need to put in a great week of practice in preparation for what is going to be a tough weekend."
Rutgers-Newark hosts FDU-Florham in Newark on Friday at 5 p.m., and the Raiders then welcome the Raptors to town Saturday for their GNAC showdown.
