STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. (April 24, 2017) – The Rutgers University-Newark men's tennis team suffered a 6-3 non-conference loss at the College of Staten Island Monday afternoon.
Rutgers-Newark drops to 8-6 overall and will return to the courts at Lehman College Tuesday. It will be the team's final tune-up prior to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament where the Scarlet Raiders will battle top-seeded Ramapo College Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Dolphins earned 2-of-3 doubles points for a 2-1 lead after that portion of the match. Junior
Brandon Davis and senior
Joe Codomo pocketed the Scarlet Raiders' doubles tally, picking up an 8-4 win out of the first slot.
Davis continued his red-hot play with a victory at No. 1 singles, cruising 6-4, 6-2, while senior
Parth Shah notched the final Rutgers-Newark point out of the second flight, going 7-5, 6-4 for a hard-fought triumph.
Codomo fought took-and-nail in a three-set loss out No. 4 singles, but fell in three 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Davis went 2-0 for the third match in four days.
R-N will take on Lehman Tuesday and continue preparation for the GNAC semifinals in Mahwah the rest of the week.
