Corey Pieper of the Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball team was named the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) Player of the Week, it was announced Monday afternoon by the league office.
Pieper led the Scarlet Raiders to a pair of 3-0 sweeps last week as Rutgers-Newark extended its winning streak to nine matches overall.
Pieper opened the week with 15 winners in a sweep of Widener, hitting an incredible .700 in the process. He added six digs and two block assists to his line, coming back with 11 kills and two more rejections in R-N's throttling of league rival Thiel College.
The Ohio native averaged 4.3 kills per set and 1.8 digs per set on the week, hitting .468 overall. He posted a total of 26 kills and 29 points, committing just four errors in two matches.
Rutgers-Newark will return to action at CVC rival Cairn University Tuesday night. The Scarlet Raiders – who are a perfect 3-0 in league play – will be looking to push their winning streak to 10 matches.
