Box Score

NEWARK, N.J. (March 17, 2018) –
The College of Staten Island downed Rutgers University-Newark by a score of 6-3 Saturday on The Golden Dome Courts in non-league men's tennis action.

Rutgers-Newark drops to 0-2 ahead of a road matchup at Drew University, while CSI moves to 1-0. The Scarlet Raiders and Rangers are slated to battle Thursday at 4 p.m. in Madison, N.J.

"It was a good, competitive match in tough conditions today, and CSI was able to adjust a little better than we were," said Head Coach Andres Bustani. "We had some opportunities to turn some matches around, but we were unable to take advantage. Moving forward, we need to make sure we come out focused in order to put ourselves in the best position after doubles."

CSI took 2-of-3 doubles points, earning an 8-4 win at No. 2 and an 8-6 triumph at No. 3. Veer Kachhiaptel and Brandon Davis won for the Scarlet Raiders at No. 1, taking their match 8-2 over Andrew Adia and Matthew Vesci. Alan Yu and Vihang Patel nearly did enough out of the third slot, falling 8-6 in a tight match.

Davis and Patel were responsible for the Scarlet Raider singles wins. Davis rolled 6-2, 6-2 in the first flight, and Patel cruised 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6. Kevin Martin and Alan Yu each won five games in losses at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.
