Pieper Feature Story

NEWARK, N.J. (March 20, 2018) –
Senior Corey Pieper of the Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball team was honored by the Continental Volleyball Conference (CVC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) for his monster performance in two matches last week.

The honor is his second from the CVC this year and first from the ECAC.

Pieper led the Scarlet Raiders (14-4, 5-2 CVC) to an upset of nationally-ranked No. 12 Mt. St. Joseph's putting down 26 kills in just three sets. He set a CVC record for kills in a three-set match, which is also a Rutgers-Newark record as a member of NCAA Division III (member since 2015).

Prior to his performance against MSJ, Pieper totaled another 26 kills in a five-set loss to Wittenberg. He added 10 digs and four blocks in that match for a double-double.

In all the Ohio native hammered home an astounding 52 kills in eight sets, hitting .333 or better in both matches. He averaged 6.5 kills per set and racked up six blocks and 13 digs as well.

In 2018, Pieper is currently 17th nationally in points per set and 14th in kills per set, hitting a highly efficient .309 on the season.

Pieper and the Scarlet Raiders will return to action Saturday when they host a tri-match against conference rival Eastern Mennonite (2 p.m.) and Mount Saint Vincent (6 p.m.) in The Golden Dome.
