NEWARK, N.J. (April 18, 2018) – The Rutgers University-Newark softball team is set to hit the stretch run of its 2018 season, heading into big New Jersey Athletic Conference doubleheaders at Ramapo College and New Jersey City University Thursday and Saturday.

The Scarlet Raiders boast an overall record of 18-11, sitting at 4-6 in the conference after earning a split at 18th-ranked Kean University Tuesday. R-N is currently one game behind Montclair State for an NJACÂ playoff berth as the top-six teams in the conference make the league tournament.

9: Nine Scarlet Raiders are hitting .300 or better, led by freshman
Jaclyn Arute and senior
Kayla Gallo who are both hitting better than .400
2: Two Scarlet Raiders have ERA's under 3.00 in seniors
Morgan Walizer and

Paige Masiello – has an ERA of 3.06.

Individual Ranks in the NJAC:
Arute is ranked second in the NJAC with 1.11 runs per game, while Yusko and Walizer are tied for third in the league in walks per seven innings (1.01). Yusko's strikeout-to-walk ratio in the circle of 3.89 is third in the conference as well, while freshman
Julie Contravo's five homers has her third too. Her .17 blasts per outing is fourth, and Masiello's 49 strikeouts sit fifth and her eight wins are sixth. Yusko and Walizer are the fourth and fifth toughest to strike out in the entire conference. Arute's .500 on-base percentage has her No. 5 in the league and her two triples are eighth. Additionally, freshman
Sam Morton is No. 6 in the NJAC in sacrifice flies.

Jaclyn Arute has a team-high 12 multi-hit games and
Julie Contravo has seven multi-RBI games. Arute had an on base streak of 20 earlier in the year (seven currently), and Yusko's current seven-game hitting streak leads the Scarlet Raiders. Yusko, Arute and freshman
Angela Haines all have at least one four-hit game, and five different Scarlet Raiders have at least two doubles in a single game. Contravo's seven RBI against Lehman College are a team-high this year, and Arute has scored three runs in a game three times. Senior
Morgan Schweitzer, Yusko, Arute, Contravo and Haines all are slugging a lofty .478 or better, with Schweitzer and Contravo each leaving the ballpark with dingers on more than one occasion.
