Men’s Soccer Ranked 19th in USC Preseason Poll

Schedule Release | USC Preseason Poll

NEWARK, N.J. (August 7, 2018)
– The Rutgers University-Newark men's soccer team was ranked 19th in the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Preseason Poll released by the United Soccer Coaches Tuesday afternoon.

The Scarlet Raiders are coming off a 2017 season that saw the program win its first-ever New Jersey Athletic Conference title and reach the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The appearance in the national tournament was the program's fourth in the last five seasons as the Scarlet Raiders finished the year with a record of 20-3-1. The team started the campaign with 12-straight triumphs, and earned its conference title with wins over archrivals Montclair State University and Rowan University in the NJAC Championship Tournament.

Over the last two seasons Rutgers-Newark has amassed 41 wins against just seven losses and one draw, going 16-2-0 in the hyper-competitive NJAC.

Defending NCAA National Champion Messiah College is ranked No. 1 in the poll, while Brandeis University – a familiar foe for Rutgers-Newark – checks in at No. 4.

Drew University is the first New Jersey school to appear, slotting in at No. 12, while Stevens Institute of Technology is No. 15. The Scarlet Raiders will take on Drew in an exhibition in late-August, while R-N will head to Hoboken for a matchup with Stevens Tech on October 3.

Trinity University (Texas) is No. 17 and will be the Rutgers-Newark opponent to officially start the 2018 season as the Scarlet Raiders travel to San Antonio for matches on August 31 (Trinity) and September 2 (Southwestern University).

R-N is the only NJAC school to crack the preseason top-25, with Rowan University sitting just outside the ledger as one of six schools receiving votes. Rowan topped Rutgers-Newark in the 2017 regular season with the Raiders taking down the Profs for the NJAC crown later in the year.
