#RUNMSOC Falters Against Stevens, 3-2

HOBOKEN, NJ | Catania and Caruso each find the back of the net but fall to Stevens, 3-2, in a non-conference tilt. The Scarlet Raiders fall to 1-2 this season after the loss.

The men took 11 shots and put five on target against the Ducks and held an early 6-4 edge in that category in the first half. Out of the half, Stevens came out charged and fired off 17 shots and found the back of the net with three of them, once again ripping victory away from the Scarlet Raiders. Rutgers-Newark has led in every game they've played this season but has been unable to hold onto that lead.

Franco Catania netted his third goal of the season just 14 minutes into the game when Miguel Sencion slid a pass across the box to Catania who was able to redirect it into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead. The rest of the first half would remain quiet as neither team was able to create another scoring opportunity.

The second half spelled disaster for the men as Stevens took a 2-1 lead 23 minutes into the second stanza. Stevens peppered Andres Medina in net, who made six saves on the day, to the tune of 17 shots in the second half alone.

Rutgers-Newark wouldn't go quietly, as Ryan Caruso scored his third of the season off of a pass from Juwan Ash to level the game at two. Just two minutes later, however, Emerico Vespucci would break the dead lock with a breakaway goal to give the Ducks a late-game winner.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action this weekend when they host the annual Brick City Classic on Friday and Sunday.
