Men's Basketball NJAC Championship Hopes End at the Hands of Rowan

GLASSBORO, NJ | Abe Kromah once again tied his career-high of 24 points, however, it wasn't enough to topple #2 Rowan University in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Semifinal. In the third meeting, it was the Profs who came out on top with a narrow 72-69 victory to advance to the NJAC Championship game.

Rutgers-Newark (17-9) was led by Kromah's 24 points while Jamir Patterson and Levi Holton added 19 and 12 points, respectively. Holton, for the second time this season, recorded a double-double, this time with a team-high 12 rebounds.

Rowan (23-4) had three players score in double-digits with Marcellus Ross leading the way with 20. Hafeez Melvin added 19 while D'Andre Vilmar tied for the team lead with seven rebounds.

The Scarlet Raiders jumped out to an 11-8 lead, however, their offense would quickly stall as the Profs responded with a 13-5 run to rip the lead away from Rutgers-Newark. Travis Miles converted a jumper from in the paint to cut the lead down to four but Rutgers-Newark was unable to build off of that as Rowan carried a 9-point lead into the half.

In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders continually chipped away at their deficit and with 3:03 remaining in the game saw themselves behind by just three thanks to a Patterson layup. Rutgers-Newark, despite their second-half rally, was unable to get over the hump as the Profs held off the Scarlet Raiders to head to the NJAC Championships.

The Scarlet Raiders will now wait to see where and who they will play in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Tournament.
