Ralph Dominates Inside as #RUNMBB Advance to the ECAC Semifinals

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark men's basketball team advanced to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Semifinal against Penn State - Behrend tomorrow at 5:30 pm after defeating Juniata, 62-49. 

Rutgers-Newark (18-9) was led by Dante Ralph who scored 15 points on 7-for-8 shooting while Jamir Patterson added 10. Levi Holton nearly collected another double-double with eight points and eight rebounds.

Juniata (16-12) had two players score in double digits led by Evan Eisenhart's 14 points. On the boards, it was Nick Rigby who grabbed a team-high five rebounds.

In the first half of tonight's ECAC Quarterfinal, the Scarlet Raiders and the Eagles played a back-and-forth affair with the Scarlet Raiders taking a three-point lead into the half. The Scarlet Raiders jumped out to their largest lead of the half when Tyrone Bowens converted a layup to put Rutgers-Newark up 21-12. From there, Juniata chipped away at the lead and brought it to within one, with 1:42 to go before Kromah converted and floating jump shot to increase his team's lead before the break.

After scoring 23 points in the first half, the Scarlet Raiders exploded in the second half and scored 39 points on 62.5% shooting from the floor. Early in the second half, the Eagles cut the lead down to four, however, the Scarlet Raiders answered with a 7-0 run to further extend their lead. The Eagles didn't go away quietly as with 3:12 left, they once again brought the deficit down to four. Russell Ayala responded with three to nullify any momentum Juniata began to gain. Down the stretch, the Scarlet Raiders converted their free throws to advance to the ECAC Semifinal against Penn St. - Behrend.
