Alvarez & Evensen Power the Scarlet Raiders Past Maine-Presque Isle

DAVENPORT, FL | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team rebounded from their loss yesterday with a 14-3 win over Maine Presque Isle in their second game of the RussMatt Invitational. 

Rutgers-Newark (6-3) was led by Armando Alvarez who finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs while Jesse Evensen went 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. Daniel Reardon (2-0) started for the Scarlet Raiders today and became the second Scarlet Raiders pitcher to hit the two-win mark of the season. Reardon hurled six innings and tallied seven strikeouts while allowing just two earned runs. 

Maine-Presque Isle tallied 11 hits as a team with Timmy Burns and Joey Lippo leading the way with three each. Spencer Harman walked six batters and allowed 9 earned runs with two strikeouts in the loss. 

The Scarlet Raiders scored at least one run in each inning with a high of three in three different innings. One of those innings was the first inning where Evensen hit a 2 RBI homer before Tirso added an RBI triple before the end of the inning.

Later, in the bottom of the 3rd, Lebow added two more with a 2 RBI single to center field to score Alvarez and Nathaniel Nunez. In the 4th and 5th, the Scarlet Raiders scattered six runs to increase their lead to 12-3. With a large lead, Rutgers-Newark added two more in the 6th which activated the run rule to end the game in seven innings.
