Baseball Comes Up Short in Offensive Game Against Minnesota-Morris

AUBURNDALE, FL | The Scarlet Raiders baseball team scattered 14 hits in the 14-12 loss to Minnesota-Morris in their final game of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. 

Rutgers-Newark (8-4) had an offensive explosion led by Jamir Ramos (3-for-4, 3 RBI) and Jon Rosado (3-for-3, 2 RBI). Anthony Ricardo also added a pair of hits and 3 RBI while Ryan Lebow also added a pair of hits. On the mound, it was Liam Winslow who got the start and pitched 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. 

Minn-Morris (5-4) used 15 hits to score 14 runs in the win and didn't commit an error in the game. Tyler Scheler paced the team from the plate, going 3-for-5 with 3 RBI while David Steffen picked up four strikeouts from the mound. 

The Scarlet Raiders got off to a red-hot start, plating 11 runs in the first four innings while holding the Cougars to six during that same span. After two innings of play, the Scarlet Raiders held a slight 3-2 edge before exploding for seven runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Ricardo got the scoring started with a 2 RBI double to center field to score Armando Alvarez and Robert Gonzalez. Shortly after, Lebow brought Ricardo home with an RBI single through the left side. The scoring continued when Angelo Mascolo hit a line drive single to score Lebow followed by a Ramos RBI single. 

In the top of the sixth, the Cougars recaptured the lead by scoring five runs to take a 13-10 lead. Rutgers-Newark added a run in the bottom of the 8th to cut the lead down to two, however, the Cougars scored again in the top of the 9th to prevent the Scarlet Raiders' comeback.
