Suleski's Five RBIs Power Rutgers-Newark Past St. Elizabeth

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball program picked up their second straight win this afternoon when they took down Saint Elizabeth 11-6 at Weequahic Park.

Rutgers-Newark (2-1) was led by Chris Suleski who finished 2-for-4 at the dish with two runs and five RBIs. Robert Gonzalez paced the team with three runs scored while NJAC Rookie of the Week once again had a solid outing, going 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. On the mound, Colin Thomson (1-0) hurled six innings with seven strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season.

For St. Elizabeth (0-3) it was Patella who picked up the loss after throwing four innings with three walks and five hits. At the plate, Brong led the team, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

The Scarlet Raiders wasted no time adding marks to the scoreboard as Lisandro Ulerio scored via a balk followed by Gonzalez scoring on the fielder's choice by Suleski. Suleski then followed that up with a moonshot in the third inning where he powered the ball over the centerfield fence for a three-run homer to put the Scarlet Raiders up 5-0.

In the fifth, Suleski kept his bat hot and hit an RBI triple to center field before Jon Rosado hit a sacrifice fly to score Suleski. Recchia continued to rake in runs for the Scarlet Raiders with a single to center field which scored Matthew Rypkema.

It wasn't until the top of the sixth until St. Elizabeth scored a run, and when they did it came in bunches. The Eagles plated four runs in the top of the sixth followed by one in each of the following innings cutting their deficit down to five. However, the Scarlet Raiders answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the eighth to secure their second win of the season.
