Lebow Burst the Beaver Dam Against CCNY With Six RBIs

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball program picked up their third straight win this afternoon at Weequahic Park against non-conference foes, City College of New York, 20-2.

Rutgers-Newark (3-1) had another solid outing, this time led by Ryan Lebow who finished 2-for-3 with two runs and six RBIs. Joining him in the multi-hit game was Gianmarco Acevedo who went 2-for-2 with a run scored. On the mound, Daniel Reardon (1-0) hurled 57 pitches in six innings of action and tallied 9 strikeouts with just one earned run. 

CCNY (1-2) was led by Xavier Grobbel who finished 2-for-4 with an RBI while John Creegan also went 2-for-4 from the dish. On the mound, Matthew Kue (0-1) allowed six runs on 42 pitches.

The Scarlet Raiders came out of the gate hot and quickly put up seven runs on the Beavers. Chris Suleski continued his hot streak and hit an RBI single to right field before Matthew Rypkema added an RBI of his own. Lebow then began his reign of terror against CCNY with a double to right field that cleared the bases and put Rutgers-Newark up 6-0. 

In the second, the Scarlet Raiders added another five to their tally. After loading the bases with patient plate appearances that were awarded walks. Lebow, already loaded with confidence, waited for the pitch he liked and sent it into left-center, once again clearing the bases, for a stand-up three-RBI triple.

Rutgers-Newark returned to the scoreboard in the fourth with another six runs thanks to several walks. CCNY scored their two runs of the game in the 5th and 6th innings thanks to singles by Grobbel and Suprun. 

With the dominant lead, the Scarlet Raiders held the Beavers scoreless in the top of the 7th to walk away with their third win of the year.

The Scarlet Raiders will host St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn on Saturday, March 5 in a non-conference doubleheader that begins at 12:00 pm.
