#RUNBB Sweeps St. Joseph's - Brooklyn to Extend Win Streak

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball program continued their win streak today with a pair of wins over St. Joseph's College - Brooklyn at Weequahic Park. The Scarlet Raiders improved to 5-1 with the sweep while the Bears dropped to 0-2. 

Game 1: Rutgers-Newark 8, St. Joseph's College - Bk 2

Jamir Ramos led the Scarlet Raiders in the first game with two hits and two RBIs while Jon Rosado also finished with a pair of hits. Anthony Ricardo finished the first game 1-for-3 with two RBIs. On the mound, Marcus James (1-1) pitched a stellar six innings with six strikeouts and just two runs.

The Scarlet Raiders responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the second after the Bears put a run on the board in the top of the innings. Chris Suleski doubled down the right-field line to score Armando Alvarez to tie the game up at one. St. Joseph's - Brooklyn then took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third. 

Rutgers-Newark exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the 5th that started with a Lisandro Ulerio RBI double down the left field line. Ramos followed up with a 2 RBI single up the middle that was followed by a 2 RBI triple by Ricardo. Ricardo scored the 8th run for the Scarlet Raiders via a wild pitch to further extend their lead. 

From there, the Scarlet Raiders shut down the Bears' offense to close out game one.

Game 2: Rutgers-Newark 7, St. Joseph's College - Bk 4

The Scarlet Raiders had four players tally two hits, Ramos, Suleski, Andre Tirso, and Ryan Lebow. Lebow continued his hot streak, adding two more RBIs to his total to give him 8 in three games this weekend. Dan Greene hurled four innings and picked up the win with three strikeouts while Alex Couto came in for the save. 

Once again, the Bears were first on the scoreboard, scoring two runs in the top of the second while the Scarlet Raiders added one in the bottom of the inning. St. Joseph's - Brooklyn added another pair in the top of the 4th before the Scarlet Raiders exploded in the bottom of the 4th for five runs. Nathaniel Nunez hit a 2 RBI single up the middle that was followed by a 2 RBI double into left field. 

With a 6-4 lead, the Scarlet Raiders added one in the bottom of the 5th to extend their lead before Couto came in and closed the door on the Bears.

The Scarlet Raiders will hit the road to take on FDU-Florham on Tuesday, March 8 at 3:30 pm in Madison, NJ.
