FDU-Florham Ends Rutgers-Newark Baseball's 5-Game Win Streak

MADISON, NJ | In their final tune-up before their Florida trip, the Scarlet Raiders baseball team hit the road for the first time this season and took on FDU-Florham. The Devils ended the Scarlet Raiders' five-game win streak with a 9-6 victory. 

Rutgers-Newark (5-2) was led by Robert Gonzalez who finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored while Ryan Lebow went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Eric Recchia continues to have an electric start to this collegiate career when he finished today 1-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored. Colin Thomson (1-1) was given the start against the Devils and pitched four innings and allowed eight hits and eight runs.

FDU-Florham (7-2) was led by Nodoro who finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs while Geist and Chippen each tallied two hits and two RBIs. Molina pitched 4.2 innings and tallied one strikeout with four earned runs. 

The Devils were first on the board in the bottom of the second where they scored three runs on a three-run homer by Nodoro. FDU-Florham went on to add another run in the third before scoring four more in the bottom of the fourth. A pair of doubles by Chippenda and Geist further extended the Devils' lead over the visiting Scarlet Raiders.

In the fifth, the Scarlet Raiders' bats came alive, scoring four runs to cut their deficit in half. Ryan Lebow got the scoring started with a single to score Eric Recchia before Robert Gonzalez hit a bases-clearing double to right-center. After going scoreless in the sixth, the Scarlet Raiders added another run to their tally in the seventh when Recchia hit a solo home run. Matthew Rypkema brought Rutgers-Newark within two runs when he hit an RBI single to score Gonzalez who singled two batters earlier. 

FDU-Florham extended their lead to three, 9-6, when they scored in the bottom of the eighth.
