Taylor's Late-Game Strikeouts Lift Scarlet Raiders Past Cairn

NEWARK, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders baseball program bounced back from a 9-8 loss to Stevens yesterday afternoon with a 5-3 win over Cairn today at Weequahic Park.

Anthony Ricardo secured two of the Scarlet Raiders (9-5) 9 hits in the win with an RBI while Ryan Lebow finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored. Colin Thomson got the start on the hill but it was Liam Winslow (1-0) who picked up the win while Vince Taylor picked up an electric save. Taylor pitched two innings and recorded a team-high five strikeouts in the win.

Cairn (7-6) scattered four hits and scored three runs in the loss. Caleb Edman finished 1-for-4 with an RBI. Cameron Culver picked up the loss after going 6.1 innings with six strikeouts and four earned runs.

For the first three innings, it was a pitching duel between Thomson and Culver as both teams struggled to find any offense. It wasn't until the 4th inning that the teams were able to plate a run. Cairn scored first in the top of the inning before Chris Suleski leveled the playing field with a single through the right side to score Robert Gonzalez.

Once again in the 7th, both teams plated runs, except this time, the Scarlet Raiders scored one more than their counterparts. Jon Rosado scored the first run of the inning with a single RBI up the middle before Jamir Ramos did the same to score Matthew Rypkema. Eric Recchia picked up an RBI when he brought home Rosado with a fielder's choice.

With the lead, the Scarlet Raiders added an insurance run in the 8th when Anthony Ricardo singled through the right side to bring home Lebow. Taylor than confidently walked out the mound and shut down the Cairn offense to put the Scarlet Raiders back in the win column.
