Offensive Onslaught Powers #RUNBB Past Drew, 14-3

MADISON, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball squad picked up their second straight win this afternoon after taking down non-conference foe, Drew University, 14-3.

Robert Gonzalez kept his bat going against the Rangers, finishing 4-for-5 with 2 RBIs and four runs scored for the Scarlet Raiders (10-5). Lisandro Ulerio returned to the lineup and went 3-for-5 with three runs while Dario Morales also finished with a trio of hits. Ryan Lebow tied the team lead with 3 RBIs on three hits. Marcus James (2-2) earned his second win of the season after hurling 2.0 innings of action and striking out four batters.

Drew (3-17) tallied just five hits in the loss with Diaz finishing the game 1-for-2 with an RBI. On the mound, DeGiglio (1-1) struck out four batters and allowed 9 hits in the loss.

Rutgers-Newark took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd when Jon Rosado brought home Lebow who had hit an infield single earlier in the inning. Just an inning later, Drew knotted the game up at one when the Scarlet Raiders registered one of their two errors in the game.

After a dormant two innings by the Scarlet Raiders, the flood gates opened in the 5th inning where Rutgers-Newark poured on four runs. The Scarlet Raiders used six hits to cross four runs which started with a lead-off bunt by the speedy Ulerio. In the very next inning, the Scarlet Raiders kept their foot on the gas and tallied another four runs, this time using four hits to do so. Drew was charged with an error in the inning which allowed Rutgers-Newark to continue plating runs.

Once again it was Ulerio who got the inning started with a lead-off single followed by a stolen base. Morales, later, hit a 2 RBI single up the middle before eventually scoring himself on a wild pitch. Lebow doubled their inning total with a double to left-center to put the Scarlet Raiders up 9-1.

Drew tried to cut the lead down with two runs in the bottom of the sixth, however, Rutgers-Newark added three more in the 7th and a pair in the 9th to close out the game with 14 runs on 21 hits.
