#RUNBB Splits NJAC DH With TCNJ

EWING, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team split today's New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader with The College of New Jersey this afternoon 11-5 and 16-2.

Game 1: Rutgers-Newark 11, TCNJ 5

Robert Gonzalez paced the Scarlet Raiders (11-9, 1-3), going 3-for-5 with 2 RBIs while Eric Recchia and Jon Rosado also added 2 RBIs each. Jamir Ramos, Anthony Ricardo, and Matthew Rypkema all joined the multi-hit club with two each. On the mound, Dan Greene (3-0) picked up his third win of the season after hurling 5.0 innings

For TCNJ (10-9, 2-2) they used 15 hits to plate five runs. Jack Oczkowski led the Lions with four hits while Justin Marcario and Andrew Fernandez added 2 RBIs each.

The Scarlet Raiders opened the game with an explosive four-run inning. Gonzalez got the scoring started with an RBI single that brought home Lisandro Ulerio who reached earlier with a walk. After a patient at-bat, Chris Suleski walked in a run before Recchia used a fielder's choice to add another tally for the Scarlet Raiders. Another fielder's choice, this time by Rosado, scored the 4th run for the Scarlet Raiders.

TCNJ plated one run in the bottom of the 2nd before Rutgers-Newark started another scoring spree. In the top of the 4th, Ramos took advantage of the bases being loaded and hit an RBI single to shallow center field to set up Gonzalez to do the same. Armando Alvarez then used a sacrifice fly to bring home yet another run for Rutgers-Newark.

In the next inning, the Scarlet Raiders repeated their success from the previous inning to give them a 10-3 lead. Rutgers-Newark would add their final run in the top of the 9th followed by a pair of runs by TCNJ to close out the first game in favor of Rutgers-Newark.

Game 2: TCNJ 16, Rutgers-Newark 2

Rutgers-Newark (11-10, 1-4) scattered six hits to score two runs while committing four errors. Rypkema was a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish while Ramos, Recchia, and Tony Liggio recorded the other three hits. Colin Thomson (2-2) struck out a pair in two innings while allowing seven hits.

TCNJ (11-9, 3-2) matched their hit total from game one with 15 but this time plated 16 runs. Joey Cruiata was 3-for-5 with an RBI while Chris Cote finished 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs.

In the second game, the Lions got their offense going, scoring 9 runs through the first four innings of play. TCNJ plated five runs in the second to expand their lead further while keeping the Scarlet Raiders off of the board.

The Scarlet Raiders recorded their first run of game two in the top of the 4th before adding another in the 9th. TCNJ plated five more runs in the 7th and 8th to split the NJAC series against the Scarlet Raiders.
