Rutgers-Newark Baseball Unable to Slow Down William Paterson, 14-4

WAYNE, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball team finished their home and away series today against New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opponents William Paterson. The Pioneers picked up where they left off yesterday and slid past Rutgers-Newark, 14-4.

Rutgers-Newark (12-12, 2-6) scattered seven hits and played clean baseball in the field while plating four runs in the loss. Matthew Rypkema was the lone multi-hit Scarlet Raider, finishing 2-for-5 from the plate while it was Armando Alvarez and Robert Gonzalez who tallied the pair of RBIs. On the mound, Dan Greene suffered his first loss of the season, going 4.1 innings and allowing 10 hits with two strikeouts.

William Paterson (19-9, 5-3) used 15 hits to score 14 runs while committing three errors. Carson Weis led the Pioneers, going 3-for-4 with 6 RBIs and three runs scored. On the bump, Jordan Manne pitched five innings and allowed just three hits with three strikeouts.

The Pioneers plated runs early and often against the Scarlet Raiders, scoring seven runs through the first three innings. Rutgers-Newark got on the board in the top of the 3rd when Gonzalez used a sacrifice fly to center field to score Ryan Lebow. The Scarlet Raiders then doubled their tally with a run in the 5th before William Paterson added six in the bottom of the inning.

Rutgers-Newark tried to put together a rally with two runs in the 8th but were closed out as William Paterson remained in front to complete the season sweep.
