#RUNBB Completes The Comeback Against NJCU, 8-6

JERSEY CITY, NJ | The Scarlet Raiders baseball program plated seven runs in the final four innings to complete the comeback against New Jersey City University in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) play, 8-6. 

Rutgers-Newark (14-18, 4-12) used 9 hits to score eight runs and sweep NJAC rivals, NJCU. Chris Suleski continued his solid season going 3-for-5 at the plate with 2 RBIs while Eric Recchia added two hits and 2 RBIs. Vince Taylor (1-4) picked up his first win of the season after hurling 2.1 innings and striking out a team-high three batters. 

NJCU (12-25, 3-13) suffered their third straight loss after falling to Rutgers-Newark. Leslie paced the Gothic Knights with two hits while Hernandez led the way with 2 RBIs.

NJCU opened the game with a 5-1 lead through four innings. Scoring the run for the Scarlet Raiders was Armando Alvarez who used a sacrifice fly to plate Recchia. 

As NJCU's bats started to cool off, the opposite began to happen for Rutgers-Newark. Trailing 6-2, the Scarlet Raiders tied the game up at six when they scored four runs in the top of the 7th. A lead off single by Tony Liggio started the explosive inning for Rutgers-Newark. Lisandro Ulerio reignited the offense with a single to right field which plated Nathaniel Nunez before Recchia and Suleski each tallied an RBI. 

With the game all tied, Rutgers-Newark scored another pair of runs in the top of the 9th. Recchia and Suleski came to the rescue again as they each picked up an RBI to propel the Scarlet Raiders into the lead to secure another crucial NJAC win.

The Scarlet Raiders will close out the regular season tomorrow against Stockton University in an NJAC doubleheader at 11:30 pm.
