Bowen's Career-High Leads Rutgers-Newark Past Ramapo in Overtime, 65-64

NEWARK, NJ | Tyrone Bowens' career-high 16 points paced the Scarlet Raiders as Rutgers University-Newark took down Ramapo in overtime, 65-64 at The Golden Dome. The win moved the Scarlet Raiders to 5-12, 3-7 while Ramapo dropped to 7-10, 3-7.

Godwin finished with 12 points while Holton added 11. Jenkins-Floyd recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

After a slow start to the game for both squads, the points began to flow. Eli Camacho and Tony Godwin found success from behind the arc early on while Shy'Heed Jenkins-Floyd wiggled his way in the paint. Rutgers-Newark continued to break down Ramapo's defense with methodical plays which turned into points. Ramapo was forced to call a timeout to try to figure out the Scarlet Raiders' offense. The Roadrunners would find themselves behind by four with two minutes to go, however, a turn around jumper by Godwin increased that to six. After some quick back and forth, the Scarlet Raiders took a 28-23 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Scarlet Raiders and Roadrunners played even basketball with neither team able to take a substantial lead. With 10:19 to go, Rutgers-Newark saw their lead disappear as Ramapo knotted it up at 37. Ramapo was fueled by a 6-0 run and a three minute scoreless spell by the Scarlet Raiders. The Scarlet Raiders' offense remained frozen as Ramapo continued to find the bottom of the net to the tune of a 10-0 run which put them in the driver's seat, 41-37. Jenkins-Floyd ended the scoreless streak with a floater from in the paint to bring Rutgers-Newark within two.

The Roadrunners, with 2:49 remaining, held a 54-47 lead over the Scarlet Raiders, however, out of the timeout, Tyrone Bowens pulled down a crucial offensive rebound for an easy layup. Jenkins-Floyd followed up with an electric driving layup to ignite the crowd and bring his team within three. Rutgers-Newark kept the pressure on and with 21.4 remaining, Levi Holton cashed in on a pair from the charity stripe to knot the game up at 57.

With the game at a stalemate after regulation, the game went into overtime where Holton and Jenkins-Floyd gave the Scarlet Raiders a brief four point lead before Ramapo cut the lead down to two. With the game on the line and down one, Godwin drove to the rim and was fouled. At the line, Godwin converted both to put his team up 65-64 with 3.1 seconds to go.
