Women's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Defeat to Albright

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark women's soccer squad dropped a non-conference bout to Albright on Wednesday evening, 1-0, at Frederick Douglass Field.

Rutgers-Newark (5-7) finished the game with 25 shots and put 14 on target with Seoane Oaxaca leading the way with five. Riley Haggerty paced the Scarlet Raiders with three shots on target while Jillian Jones made two saves. Albright (4-5-1) made the most of their five shots this evening and found the back of the net with one of their three shots on target.

The Scarlet Raiders controlled the pace of play in the first half and rifled off eight shots which forced two saves from McKenna Levan. Rutgers-Newark put the pressure on Albright from the first whistle but were unable to crack the code that was Albright's defense.

In the second half, Maggie Williams collected a loose ball off of a free kick and tapped it into an open net to put her team in front. The Scarlet Raiders ramped up their offensive attacks which resulted in a shot off of the crossbar that bounced away from harm. Despite taking 17 second half shots, the Scarlet Raiders couldn't find the back of the net as they fell to their non-conference foes.

Rutgers-Newark returns to action on Saturday, October 7 when they travel to Ewing, NJ to take on The College of New Jersey at 11:00 a.m.
