Cold Shooting Sees Men's Basketball Fall to Ramapo, 70-40

MAHWAH, NJ | The Rutgers-Newark men's basketball squad struggled on offense on Tuesday night and fell, 70-40, in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) opener against Ramapo College.

Rutgers-Newark (3-2, 0-1) shot 31.7% from the floor and was out rebounded 39-22. Kelvin Marshall led the Scarlet Raiders with eight points while Levi Holton and Travis Miles tallied five rebounds each. Ramapo College (4-1, 1-0) shot 45.9% from the field and was led by Jordan Myers' 15 points.

The Scarlet Raiders and Roadrunners were entwined in a back-and-forth battle for the opening 10 minutes of the game. Ayden Brown put the Scarlet Raiders ahead with a three-point bucket, however, that lead would not hold as Ramapo hit a three of their own shortly after. The Roadrunners built off of that and used a 14-4 run over the final five minutes to take a 37-26 lead into the locker room.

Rutgers-Newark came out in the second and hit just 13% of its shots, limiting its ability to create a rally. Due to the offensive struggles by the Scarlet Raiders, Ramapo was able to cruise to their first NJAC win of the season.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Sunday, November 26 when they head to Hoboken, NJ to take on Stevens.
