Rosado Lifts the Scarlet Raiders Past SEU With Walk Off Single

NEWARK, NJ | Jon Rosado hit a walk off single to lift the Scarlet Raiders over St. Elizabeth in a thrilling 15-14, 11-inning win. The win boosts the Scarlet Raiders to 3-1 while St. Elizabeth fell to 0-3. 

Eric Recchia had another quality performance, going 4-for-6 from the dish with five RBIs while Gilroy Prial and Robert Gonzalez each added two hits. Denny Furcal, Rosado, and Prial all added two RBIs. Colin Thomson got the start on the hill for the Scarlet Raiders and pitched six innings and allowed five runs with five strikeouts. Matthew L'Hommedieu earned the win in the extra inning affair. 

The Scarlet Raiders opened the game with a bang, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first which would set the tone for the game. After a pair of scoreless innings, the Eagles found their first runs of the game, plating four to cut the lead down to 6-4. Rutgers-Newark then scattered seven runs over the course of the 6th and 7th innings before the Eagles scored 10 between the 7th, 8th and 9th. 

Trailing by one in the bottom of the 9th, Furcal was patient at the plate and was rewarded after being hit by a pitch to plate the tying run of the game. After getting out of the top of the 11th, Recchia gave the Scarlet Raiders the perfect start with a lead-off triple. The Eagles followed that with a pair of intentional walks to load the bases to make the easy play at home which worked for two outs. Down 1-2 in the count, Rosado waited for his pitch and hit the ball into shallow center for the walk off win.

The Scarlet Raiders return to action on Saturday when they host St. Joseph's University-Brooklyn at 12:00 pm in their first doubleheader of the season.
