NEWARK, N.J. – The Rutgers–Newark baseball team has once again been recognized for its success in the classroom, earning the 2025-26 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award presented by Sports Attack. The honor marks the second consecutive year the Scarlet Raiders have received the national recognition.
The ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award recognizes high school and collegiate baseball programs that post a cumulative team grade-point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale during the academic year.
Rutgers–Newark was among nearly 500 collegiate programs nationwide to receive the award, highlighting the Scarlet Raiders' continued commitment to excellence both on the field and in the classroom.
Leading the Scarlet Raiders' academic success was Joseph Bernardo, who earned Rutgers University–Newark's highest individual academic honor by being named the 2025-26 Rutgers–Newark Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Bernardo also represented the baseball program on the Rutgers–Newark All-Academic Team and earned CSC Academic All-District honors, highlighting his outstanding achievements both in the classroom and on the field.
The back-to-back recognition reflects the culture of academic achievement within the Rutgers–Newark baseball program and the dedication of its student-athletes to excelling in all aspects of the collegiate experience.
