NEWARK, N.J. — A late offensive surge proved to be the difference as Stockton broke open a tight game and went on to defeat Rutgers-Newark, 13-3, in nine innings.
The Scarlet Raiders kept things competitive through the middle innings, highlighted by a run in the fourth to get on the board and a two-run seventh inning that trimmed the deficit.
Rutgers-Newark showed resilience throughout, staying within striking distance entering the later innings, but was unable to contain Stockton's momentum down the stretch.
Jerez led the way offensively with two hits, while Joseph Bernardo added a hit to reach 100 for his Scarlet Raiders career. However, Stockton's lineup came alive late, plating multiple runs in the final frames to create separation.
The Scarlet Raiders will look to bounce back as they wrap up the regular season against Montclair State on Sunday.
