Softball Stumbles Against Ramapo in NJAC Doubleheader

MAHWAH, NJ | The slide for the Scarlet Raiders' softball team continued this afternoon when they dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) twin bill to Ramapo College, 12-0, 11-2. The pair of losses dropped Rutgers-Newark to 7-21, 1-11 while Ramapo improved to 26-7-1, 10-1-1.

Game 1: Ramapo 12, Rutgers-Newark 0 (5 inn.)

The Scarlet Raiders tallied three hits and one error in the loss. Alex Di Martino continues to be the spark for the Scarlet Raiders as she finished 2-for-2 with a walk while Mia Lopez was 1-for-2.

Ramapo got the scoring started early with three runs on five hits in the opening frame before exploding for six runs in the 2nd. In the top of the 3rd, the Scarlet Raiders had a chance to plate a run with runners on 2nd and 3rd. Rutgers-Newark would go on to load the bases with just one out, however, Ramapo got out of the inning as the Scarlet Raiders left three runners on.

The Roadrunners added three runs in the bottom of the 4th before shutting out the Scarlet Raiders in the 5th to end the game in five innings.

Game 2: Ramapo 11, Rutgers-Newark 2 (5 inn.)

Keelin O'Brien, Megan Tomaselli, Gabriela Forese, Alison Miller, and Kayla Cardoza tallied the five hits for the Scarlet Raiders in game two with Miller and Michelle McMillan recording an RBI each.

Cardozo got the hitting started in the 3rd inning with a lead off single before putting herself in scoring position when she stole second. McMillan reached first via an error, which allowed Cardozo to score a run. Rutgers-Newark quickly saw their lead disappear as Ramapo responded with eight runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-1 lead.

The Roadrunners added three runs in the bottom of the 5th to activate the mercy rule and end the second game in five innings.
