Rutgers-Newark Blanked by Ramapo, 2-0

NEWARK, NJ | The Rutgers-Newark baseball squad dropped a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) bout to Ramapo College Thursday afternoon at Weequahic Park, 2-0. The Scarlet Raiders fell to 19-11-1, 3-7-1 while Ramapo improved to 18-12, 5-6. 

Peter Cortez paced the Scarlet Raiders with two hits in four at bats while Gilroy Prial, Eric Recchia, and Robert Gonzalez each added a hit. Marcus James (3-3) recorded 6.2 innings of action with three strikeouts and one earned run. 

A pitching duel ensued for the first six innings of the game with neither team able to plate a run. The Scarlet Raiders had a chance to stamp their name into the scoring ledger in the bottom of the 3rd when they loaded the bases, however, they were unable to record a run. Back-to-back singles by Prial and Recchia in the 5th once again gave the Scarlet Raiders a chance to take the lead but Ramapo did well to get the two following batters out to keep Rutgers-Newark off of the scoreboard. 

Ramapo broke the deadlock in the top of the 7th when Carovillano hit an RBI triple to right center to score Lalomia who reached via a single to lead off the inning. An RBI single in the top of the 8th doubled the Roadrunners' tally before closing out the game in the 9th.
