Rutgers-Newark Baseball Falls In Regular Season Finale to Stockton

GALLOWAY, NJ | The Rutgers University-Newark baseball squad dropped a pair of New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) games this afternoon to Stockton University to close out their season. The pair of losses give the Scarlet Raiders a record of 21-16-1, 5-12-1 for the year which is their highest win total since the 2017 season.

Game 1: Stockton 4, Rutgers-Newark 0

The Scarlet Raiders were held to three hits and committed four errors in game one of this afternoon's NJAC doubleheader against Stockton. Eric Recchia, Peter Cortez, and Armando Alvarez put the ball in play for the Scarlet Raiders. On the hill, Daniel Reardon (3-2) allowed six hits and no earned runs with a pair of strikeouts.

Stockton did all of their damage in the 7th inning after both teams held each other scoreless through the first six frames. A pair of errors by the Scarlet Raiders allowed the inning to continue as the Osprey's used five hits to plate the four runs. Those four markers would be all Stockton needed to take the first game from Rutgers-Newark.

Game 2: Stockton 6, Rutgers-Newark 5

Rutgers-Newark found their bats in game two, tallying 12 hits and five runs while playing cleaner baseball with just one error. Gilroy Prial paced the team with two hits and two RBIs while also stealing three bases. Conor Baksh and Jon Rosado each added two hits and an RBI in the loss.

The Scarlet Raiders put their first runs of the day on the board in the top of the 4th, plating two runs behind an RBI single from Rosado followed by a Prial RBI single. Rutgers-Newark doubled their lead in the 6th with another pair after Matthew Rypkema and Prial put the ball into play.

In the 7th, Stockton cut their deficit in half with a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice. Rutgers-Newark scored what they though was an insurance run in the top of the 9th before Stockton loaded the bases with no out and hit a walk-off grand slam to sweep the series against the Scarlet Raiders.
